LA HABRA - La Habra High School girls soccer player Casey Kiehl
(#3) is known more for setting up goals rather than scoring them.
She proved Tuesday afternoon against rival Sonora that she can do the
latter as well.
Kiehl had a hat trick and an assist as the visiting
Highlanders cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Raiders in a game that
clinched second place for La Habra in the Freeway League.
"I don't know what happened," the senior midfielder said.
"I'm usually more of someone who (gets the assists). But we get
really (fired) up for this game (against Sonora). And since this was my
last one, I just wanted to step up."
So did the Highlanders, who also received goals from Carly Clements and
Laura Cole. La Habra, which improved to 15-5-3 overall and 6-3 in the
Freeway League, held a 14-8 advantage in shots.
"I just wanted this group of girls to believe they could win this
year," first-year La Habra coach Joel Carlisle said. "It had
been kind of building, building and building.
"Today was another example of (this team) just coming together."
The Highlanders built a 2-0 lead by halftime before Kiehl scored
goals in the 56th, 68th and 79th minutes for a 5-0 lead.
Goalie Megan Wissman also came up big, stopping a penalty shot in the 52nd
minute.
